SUBMERSION INJURIES INTRODUCTION Submersion injuries are the second leading cause of preventable mortality in the pediatric age group. Drowning refers to death from submersion. Near drowning implies survival for at least 24 hours after the incident. Submersion is followed by laryngospasm then aspiration.
